Our Mission
Atlanta Institute of Music and Media provides the non-beginning guitar student with the instructional environment necessary to develop their musical talents and acquire the skills to become one of today's professional guitarists. The Atlanta Institute of Music and Media's guitar curriculum accomplishes this through class and private instruction, audio and video computer lab instruction, and live clinics featuring today's most well-known and innovative guitarists and music industry professionals.

The Atlanta Institute of Music and Media's guitar programs are taught by professionals whose work experience, certification and/or music degrees give each instructor the necessary background to teach the demanding guitar curriculum.

Meet Some of Our Faculty and Staff


Dr. David Mitchell is the Director of Curriculum at the Atlanta Institute of Music and Media. He holds a DMA in music composition and theory from the University of Georgia. He also holds a master's degree in composition and a bachelor's degree in guitar performance from UGA. Dr. Mitchell is a former graduate research assistant with Ideas for Creative Exploration (ICE), an interdisciplinary initiative for advanced research in the arts. He has worked on a number of interdisciplinary projects including Blackbird (a one-act play by David Harrower), Specters of the Outer Spaces (a feature length film by Fulbright Artist Marie Porterfield), and several video game projects for Interactive Science in 3d funded by the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Mitchell is an award winning, published composer with an eclectic catalogue of acoustic and electronic compositions. He is also an award winning guitarist and former instructor at several colleges in Georgia.
 
Canadian-born and raised, Bill's early musical interest was blues. At thirteen years old he moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he jammed with professionals such as Alan Collins and the Van Zants. From there his intense interest in music lead him to pursue music studies at Jacksonville University with Gary Starling. Bill then attended the Guitar Institute of Technology in Los Angeles and graduated with honors. His acquaintance with Steve Freeman, then AIMM's President, brought him to AIMM where he is now the Guitar Department head. Bill's The Bill Hart Project has released two CDs "Watch The Sky" and "Think About It." Bill has opened for Lou Rawls, Yellowjackets, Acoustic Alchemy, Mike Stern and others, is featured on numerous projects, in multiple genres, is endorsed by Mesa Boogie (amps), Yamaha (guitars) and Dimarzio (pick ups), and has instructed about 1,800 Students (and counting ...)

From the age of 8, Carl has had a rich and multi-faceted musical career. In addition to a stint as contributing editor for Guitar World Magazine, Carl has authored many instructional publications, performed in several teaching videos and recorded on projects alongside guitarist Mike Stern and drummer Dave Weckl. Carl is also a long-standing faculty member at the Atlanta Institute of Music, where he teaches the Classical and Rock Guitar programs. With a full endorsement from DiMarzio pickups, visitors to www.dimarzio.com can hear audio samples of Carl's playing right alongside those of guitar greats Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Paul Gilbert. Carl has been featured on several CDs including Radiant by Randy Hoexter and Demonstratus by Thom Hartwick. He can be heard on the sports theme for the Sunshine Network. Currently, he is working on his debut CD which will showcase his compositional and playing talents in a multi-faceted fusion format.
